Oasis Haven
an oasis.. a haven

I know I haven't posted the last few days. Anyway here are the more interesting things that have happened:

I bought my 1gb Imation thumbdrive from Sim Lim a few months ago at $10+. Almost lost it once by leaving it in a lab (written in previous post). So a few days ago when I didn't bring my pouch (which I usually do to carry handphone, mp3 & thumbdrive), I left it in my pocket. Even after a mental note to take it out when I got home, I still forgot. It was only when my mom gave it back to me after it had gone through a near 30 mins wash in the washing machine. It didn't work and my reaction was "okay I'll just redo the work I had done this morn". Surprisingly after two days it works just fine again! Support Imation!

I met up with the FYP client and his wife told me she wanted only 12 products for each category so as to protect secrets of the business. At night I sorted through the 336 to get 150 products and reworked the page generating algorithm. I wasn't pissed at all that she didn't say so in the first place, it's only right that we meet the client's demands anyway. If it was any of my other group members, they probably would have reacted in another way.

Pasar malam! Have had Ramly burger almost everyday since they started last Sat, today's (Thurs) the last day. Takoyaki, shark's fin soup, siew mai, seaweed chicken, the list goes on! Business for them seems good, especially for the food stalls.

SP gives $7.50 to each student to spend each semester - on BBQ, chalet, movies, food etc. I'm the only one under the Project Management lecturer (Calvin) while my group members are under the FYP supervisor. So me and Calvin went for a buffet at the staff's lounge. It was not bad for a restaurant located inside a poly, there were quite a lot of people too. I knew what I could talk to Calvin about - the teaching career. What I learnt is that to teach pri or sec sch, NIE's 2 year course with monthly allowance is the way to go. To teach ITE or higher, a degree is definitely necessary. The degree itself would take another 3 years, with exemption for a period of time depending on affiliated subjects which had been taken. Eg. Diploma in IT students could take their related degree using only 2 years.

For now I'm aiming to teach pri or sec, meaning I'll have to go to NIE. If I decide to aim higher I'd have to take a degree in order to teach poly or ITE and looking at my family's financial status I definitely would have to think properly. Most probably would have to take it part-time in order to work in the day to pay for it. Calvin suggested that if possible I could take it while in NS, as I'll probably not be in the main pes anyway.
